Bio
Hilete is a Partner at Green and Spiegel LLP and the Practice Director of the firm’s Canadian permanent residence practice group. She is also certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Citizenship and Immigration Law. With over 15 years of experience practicing exclusively in the area of Canadian immigration and citizenship law, Hilete has repeatedly been recognized as a “Leading Lawyer To Watch” in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, which profiles leading practitioners across Canada and is a prestigious “acknowledgment of excellence by a practitioner’s own peers and colleagues”.
Hilete has extensive experience representing both corporate and individual clients in all areas of Canadian immigration law, and is regularly featured as a panelist on Green and Spiegel’s Inside Immigration webinar series to share her expert advice and the latest trends in immigration law. She is also frequently invited to present to businesses, HR and legal professionals, international students at universities and colleges across Ontario, religious organizations, and immigrant settlement organizations on various immigration topics, including the transition from temporary to permanent residence status.
Hilete’s areas of expertise include economic immigration via the Express Entry system (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class) and provincial nominee streams; business immigration via the start-up visa and self-employed streams; family reunification; caregiver streams; and humanitarian and compassionate applications. She also advises permanent residents on PR card renewals and citizenship matters, and she has extensive experience advising businesses on how to obtain the necessary work authorizations to allow employees to work in Canada on a temporary basis, and on best practices to ensure compliance with current immigration laws and regulations including intra-company transfers, treaty work permits, spousal work permits, temporary authorization for dependent children, student visas, and visitor visas. In addition to advising clients on these matters, Hilete also has extensive experience with complex admissibility and enforcement matters, appeals, and Federal Court litigation, and she has been counsel in several notable reported decisions by the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court.
Hilete’s breadth of experience in all areas of Canadian immigration and citizenship law allows her to achieve extremely high success rates on her matters due to her careful analysis at the beginning of every case she takes on, her client-centered approach, and her ongoing involvement and analysis throughout each case until a positive result is achieved.

Involvement
Hilete has spoken at several universities and colleges in Ontario to inform international students about relevant changes in Canadian immigration law and various pathways of obtaining Canadian permanent residence.
Hilete has also embarked on many leadership and volunteer experiences with several organizations, including serving as President of the Jewish Law Students Association at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law and volunteering with United Israel Appeal Federations Canada (UIAFC). While attending law school, Hilete volunteered as a case worker at Community Legal Services, where she assisted clients in immigration and criminal law matters.
Outside of her legal career, Hilete has been active in federal and provincial politics, including holding a position managing the campaign office of a candidate for Member of Parliament and volunteering for a candidate in a major party leadership race.
