Kerry Doyle spoke with Maine Public about the detention of MaineHealth nurse Debora Kapisha, who was arrested by ICE at Portland International Jetport on July 30. Doyle, who represents Kapisha, said the arrest reflects an emerging pattern of individuals with visa overstays being flagged and detained at airports despite having pending applications for immigration relief. Kapisha, who has a pending asylum claim, was released from ICE custody last week, though removal proceedings remain ongoing. Doyle cautioned individuals with pending immigration cases about the potential risks associated with domestic air travel amid increased immigration enforcement at airports.
