On March 9, 2019, Practice Director Jonathan A. Grode, Esq. represented Green and Spiegel at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, one of the largest annual interactive, film, and music conferences and festivals in the world. Founded in 1987, SXSW is a convergence of innovation and arts that brings hundreds of thousands of people to Austin over a ten-day period every year. Considered to be an essential destination for global professionals, the event features sessions, showcases, screenings, exhibitions, and a variety of networking opportunities. By combining diverse topics, people, and places, SXSW aims to provide insights and discoveries to all who attend. Organizations from all over the world, such as cities, countries, and even continental organizations, create dedicated spaces referred to as “Houses” to host events, panels, and parties throughout the festival.
Jonathan was featured twice at SXSW, including a robust panel discussion at the Amplify Philly House (www.amplifyphilly.com) with Lauren Swartz, Senior Director of International Business for the City of Philadelphia and Karina Sotnik, Director of Business Incubation and Accelerator Programs at the University City Science Center. This panel, titled “A Philadelphia Story”, discussed the merits and opportunities of the Philadelphia area for new business expansion and relocation, tax and infrastructure incentives, and how Green and Spiegel can assist with visa acquisition for new businesses, US expansions, entrepreneurs, and investors.
Jonathan also gave a short talk about the US immigration system and visa options for entrepreneurs and investors at the European Union House prior to an entrepreneur Pitch Competition sponsored by ENRICH, the European Network of Research and Innovation Centres and Hubs. The competition featured over fifteen European innovators and nearly a dozen potential American investors.
Green and Spiegel was honored to be a part of this innovative and international festival and looks forward to participating again in 2020!
