Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to begin raids on Sunday to target recently arrived migrant families who have already been issued final orders of removal. The Trump Administration has stated that the operation will focus on those with orders of deportation, but the operations may detain others on the scene who were not the initial targets of the raids.
The raids are expected to focus on ten major U.S. cities, including Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans and San Francisco. Although Philadelphia was not listed specifically, local immigration advocates believe that immigrants here could be affected by the raids.
The Trump Administration believes that announcing the raids will deter further migration from Central America and that targeted enforcement will send a strong message to individuals who remain in the United States without documents.
The announcement has spread fear among migrant communities throughout the United States. Please remember that if stopped during a raid, you have the right to remain silent, you have the right to speak with an attorney, and you have the right to refuse a search of your home, vehicle or belongings.
