FULLY VACCINATED TRAVELERS

Fully vaccinated travelers selected for arrival testing who have traveled outside Canada and the US within 14 days prior to their entry to Canada are required to quarantine until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result. If a fully vaccinated traveler receives a positive test result or develops signs or symptoms of COVID-19, they should continue to quarantine in accordance with public health guidelines. The amount of fully vaccinated travelers selected for arrival testing will be increased to 100% within the upcoming weeks.

Policies for unvaccinated travelers remain the same. These policies for unvaccinated travelers apply to unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated youths between the ages of 12 and 17, regardless of whether they are accompanied by their fully vaccinated parents/guardians.

UNVACCINATED/NOT FULLY VACCINATED CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE

Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated children under the age of 12-years-old traveling with their fully vaccinated parents/guardians are required to complete pre-entry, arrival and Day-8 tests, unless their parents/guardians have evidence that the child had a positive COVID-19 test taken 14 to 180 days prior to arrival in Canada or the child is under 5 years of age.

For the 14 days following their entry to Canada, these children should remain with their fully vaccinated parent/guardian as much as possible and should physically distance and wear a mask around persons that are not part of their household. Within this 14-day period after entering Canada, these unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated children are not allowed to:

  • attend school, camp, or daycare;
  • attend a setting where they may have contact with vulnerable people (e.g., long-term care facility), including people who are immunocompromised, regardless of that person’s vaccination status or public health measures;
  • travel on crowded public transportation that does not ensure physical distancing and masking; or
  • attend large crowded settings, indoors or outdoors, such as an amusement park or sporting event.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH FULLY VACCINATED TRAVELERS AND THEIR UNVACCINATED/NOT FULLY VACCINATED CHILDREN UNDER 12 YEARS OF AGE

Fully vaccinated travelers and their unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated children under 12 years of age should monitor for signs or symptoms of COVID-19 within the first 14 days after they enter Canada. If any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 develop, or if they receive a positive test result, they must:

  • report within 24 hours to the Public Health Agency of Canada by calling 1-833-641-0343 (the official will provide you with additional details and instructions);
  • isolate for an additional 10 days;
  • contact the appropriate public health authority and follow their instructions.

If they receive negative test results and do not have signs or symptoms of COVID-19, fully vaccinated travelers and their unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated children under 12 years of age do not need to quarantine (subject to the restrictions noted above). However, these parties should still wear proper-fitting masks in public settings and maintain a list of locations visited as well as a list of names and contact information for all persons encountered within the 14-days after entry to Canada. These fully vaccinated travelers and their unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated children under 12 years of age should also keep a copy of their COVID-19 test results and proof of vaccine with them to present to government/public health authorities upon request.
