As the world continues to look for solutions to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has recently put in place special measures to help individuals who may be affected by the temporary closure of 11 Visa Application Centers (VACs) in mainland China. The VACs are currently closed because of the spread of the Coronavirus. The following applicants may benefit from accommodations being made by IRCC in light of recent disruptions:

  • Permanent resident visa holders who may need to extend the validity of their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR);
  • Canadian Citizenship applicants expected to take their Oath of Citizenship whose travel plans may be disrupted;
  • Temporary and permanent resident visa, work permit, and study permit applicants who are unable to complete steps in their application process due to the current circumstances in mainland China;
  • Temporary residents currently in Canada who cannot return to mainland China as a result of travel restrictions.

These applicants may, on a case by case basis, be granted extensions of time given the circumstances. Should you have any questions regarding your immigration status or application as a result of the Coronavirus, please contact Green & Spiegel LLP.
